Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert are expecting a strong boy to arrive any day to help them plough through their work at their farm on Prince Edward Island. To their surprise, a spindly red-haired girl knocks on their door instead. Anne soon charms her way into the Cuthberts' hearts with her big imagination and never-ending chatter, and begins to find her way in the close-knit community of Green Gables.
